Nikitas to join Darren Weir stable

Wednesday 8 March 2017, 1:58pm

Former top Brisbane colt Nikitas is set to have a third trainer with a move to Darren Weir in Victoria.

Nikitas, a half brother to Caulfield Cup winner Jameka, was originally trained by Kelso Wood in Brisbane.

The colt ran second to Capitalist in the 2016 Magic Millions 2YO Classic and also finished third behind Sacred Elixir in the BRC Sires' Produce Stakes as a two-year-old.

Woodside Park Stud bought a share in Nikitas who was then transferred to Chris Waller in Sydney.

However, Nikitas has failed to adapt to Sydney racing and has not run a place in seven starts for Waller.

Neville Morgan, whose wife Jenny part-owns Nikitas, confirmed he would go to to Weir.

"Maybe, Darren's use of the beach, the sand, water and the like can bring out the best in Nikitas again," Morgan said.

"Also we can see how he handles the other way of going."
