Dawn Wall has broken through the Group Three barrier at her first attempt with the promising filly continuing her upward progression with a withering burst to claim the Kembla Classic.

Last at the 800m mark, the Chris Waller-trained three-year-old found space on the rail under Kerrin McEvoy and ran down Lubiton to win Friday's $200,000 feature by a long neck.

Lubiton looked to have done enough as the post loomed but Dawn Wall effortlessly made up ground to record the third successive win of her four-race career.

Dawn Wall ($4.80) dropped back in distance to 1600m from her last start over 1800 at Rosehill on February 22.

"It was a good effort coming from last to first up the straight," Waller's racing manager Charlie Duckworth told Sky Thoroughbred Central.

"Kerrin wasn't overly hard on her, I think he had a little bit left in the locker despite the narrow margin."

Dawn Wall had also been an acceptor for Saturday's Phar Lap Stakes at Rosehill but Duckworth said the Kembla race had always been the first option.

"We stuck with the original plan which was always to come here and it's worked out well," he said.

McEvoy, who has guided Dawn Wall to her three wins, was impressed with her development.

"She's progressing really well. She had an awkward draw (13). Chris and the team left it up to me to work it out after a furlong," he said.

"I had the horse pick up into the race from the 600 on and she's done it quite nice.

"It was a nice filly to run down in Lubiton, it took me the whole length of the straight to get to her but my filly did it nicely.

"She just keeps winning, she's got a good attitude."

Dawn Wall, who is nominated for the Group One ATC Oaks at Randwick and April 8, and Lubiton skipped clear of the field in the latter stages with Faraway Town another four lengths third.
