Tulip blooms in Magic Night at Rosehill

Saturday 11 March 2017, 3:42pm

Tulip has firmed dramatically with bookmakers for the Golden Slipper but the filly's owners remain undecided whether the Magic Night Stakes winner will back up into the $3.5 million race.

One of four possible contenders for the stable that has produced more two-year-old winners than any other this season, the Lindsay Park team will discuss the situation with Coolmore.

Tulip firmed from $26 to $11 for next Saturday's Slipper with her 1-3/4 length win over Alizee in Saturday's Magic Night Stakes at Rosehill when she was ridden by Kerrin McEvoy.

The training combination of David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig celebrated victory in the first of the five Group One races for two-year-olds for the season when Catchy won last month's Blue Diamond Stakes with Tulip fourth.

Catchy is an $8 chance in the Slipper with stablemates Formality at $15 and Madeenaty at $51.

"Tulip was very impressive today," Ben Hayes said.

"She just sat midfield and she was three-wide no cover and she finished the race off great.

"Congratulations to the Coolmore boys and Pierro getting his first stakes winner."

Tulip is raced by Coolmore, who have stablemate Formality as a definite starter with Englishman Ryan Moore to ride.

And being by 2012 juvenile triple crown winner Pierro who stands at Coolmore is an even bigger bonus.

"She is his first stakes winner," Coolmore's Tom Magnier said.

"We will talk it over as a team whether she backs up into the Slipper.

"She might be more of a Sires' Produce type of horse.

"But Kerrin thinks she's good enough."

Houtzen remains the $4 Slipper favourite ahead of She Will Reign at $4.60.
