Perilous Love headed for ATC Oaks

Saturday 11 March 2017, 4:54pm

The Doomben meeting was expected to showcase an Australian Oaks hope in Ahndras but it was another Gold Coast filly Precious Love who emerged as a chance for the Group One race.

Precious Love ($16) gave nothing else a chance beating Up The Tempo ($13) by 5-1/4 lengths in the QTIS Three Year Old (2030m).

It was Precious Love's third win in her past five starts and trainer Scott Morrisey is keen to give her a chance in the ATC Australian Oaks (2400m) on April 8.

"She is entered for the race and she is bred to stay as her grandmother Royal Aria ran in an Australian Oaks," Morrisey said.

"I will give her another run here in a fortnight and if she comes through that there is a real chance she will head to Sydney for the Oaks."

"One thing if it continues to rain there it won't worry her."

Morrisey said if Perilous Love didn't head to Sydney there was a back up plan to run her in the Queensland Oaks in June.

An Australian Oaks campaign for Ahndras is now unlikely after she was beaten 21 lengths into 14th place.

Stable foreman Trent Edmonds said the filly would now spell and come back either for the Queensland Oaks in June or the Magic Millions Stayers Cup in January.

Meanwhile, class galloper Rudy ($4) lost no admirers for his Sydney trip when he flashed home under 61kg to be third in the Open Hcp (1350m).

"They went too fast for me early and I had to go back to last but when he got a split at the 200m he really hit the line," jockey Damian Browne said.

Rudy, who is being set for the JRA Cup and possibly the Doncaster Handicap, will head to Sydney next week for a lead up race.

The race was won by Siegfried ($4) who gave jockey Jeff Lloyd his 99th metropolitan win for the season.

Smart sprinter Pinch River ($1.80) is headed to the Weetwood Handicap (1200m) in Toowoomba on April 8 after making it two wins in a row since a spell.

"As I have pointed out several times, Pinch River is a very smart horse who has been dogged by hoof problems," trainer Robert Heathcote said.

"But provided I keep him sound I think there is a stakes race win in him. He ran in the Weetwood last year and went OK considering he was having hoof problems."

Apprentice Lani Fancourt continued her recent red hot run when Sheiswhatsheis ($2.90) gave her an eighth win since the start of March.

Fancourt rode a treble at Ballina on Friday - all for her master Tony Gollan, who also trains Sheiswhatsheis.
