Top stallion and the newest Group I winning broodmare sire, Charge Forward, will return to the hands of his breeders after his sale to the Esplin family who will stand the stallion in conjunction with Murrulla Stud.
Based in Wingen, 10 minutes north of Scone, Tim and Celie Nolan of Murrulla Stud jumped at the chance to stand the Group 1 winning stallion.
"We stand Office Bearer on behalf of the Esplins and when Arrowfield offered the opportunity to stand a Group 1 producing stallion like Charge Forward we quickly agreed. He's all about precocious speed having won the Galaxy as a 3yo, run 2nd in the Slipper and now being the broodmare sire of a Slipper winner," Tim said.
"You can pretty much send any mare to him and it will work."
She Will Reign, from the city-winning Charge Forward mare Courgette, won the Golden Slipper on Saturday. Her trainer Gary Portelli said of her recently, "She's got a bit of that Charge Forward look about her. Big hind quarter, good girth and lovely length. Typical of what you see of a horse with speed, she's got all that."
Tim and Celie Nolan are big supporters of the lucrative BOBS bonus system in NSW and will stand Charge Forward at an attractive fee for all breeders.
"We will stand him at $8,000 and he will be BOBS nominated, which is a great price given how well his sales results have been this year. Charge Forward has had 11 yearlings sold at Magic Millions and Inglis Classic in 2017 and they have averaged $85,000, which is over 10 times his service fee – a great return for breeders."
The Esplin family who have always owned a share in the stallion since he retired after winning the stallion making Group 1 Galaxy for trainer John O'Shea.
"We have always loved him since the day John bought him from us at Magic Millions. He can produce colts, fillies and his daughters look to be very valuable broodmares of the future," Hamish Esplin said.
Arrowfield Stud's Paul Messara hoped that a local farm would take him because of his unique pedigree and ideal complement to many Danehill-line mares standing in the Hunter Valley.
"He looks amazing, has a wonderful temperament and is an ideal outcross as evidenced by the win of She Will Reign in the Golden Slipper on Saturday," said Paul Messara.
Several shareholders have elected to retain their shares in Charge Forward and will continue to support him in the coming seasons.
