Trainer Toby Edmonds near milestone

Thursday 23 March 2017, 10:06am

Jeff Lloyd has snared the publicity as he zeros in on a jockeys' premiership record but his biggest supporter, trainer Toby Edmonds, is also close to a milestone.

Lloyd needs one winner at Doomben on Saturday to equal Chris Munce's record of 103 winners in a Brisbane metropolitan jockeys premiership.

The former South African has such a strong book of rides on Saturday he is at short odds to break the record at the meeting.

Lloyd will appeal a six-meeting suspension in Sydney on Friday for his ride on the Edmonds-trained Houtzen in the Golden Slipper but is able to ride at Doomben.

Edmonds needs one winner to reach 50 metropolitan winners in a season for the first time.

The Gold Coast trainer is a clear second in the Brisbane premiership behind Tony Gollan and also has a strong hand on Saturday.

Edmonds and Lloyd combine with Queen Tara (Class 6), Siegfried (Open Hcp) and Always Sacred (NMW Hcp) at Doomben.

"Dad puts a lot of hard work into training," his son and foreman Trent said.

"He has got a good team around him and some very loyal owners so it is success that has been earned."
