Blinkers work for Hingus Rose at Doomben

Saturday 25 March 2017, 1:58pm

The decision to add blinkers to filly Hingus Rose's race day gear has paid off with a debut win at Doomben.

Hingus Rose ($9) shared the lead into the straight and fought on to beat Acceptile ($4.80) by a short half-head, with favourite Snitz ($2.70) in third in the Two-Year-Old Handicap (1050m) on Saturday.

Hingus Rose is very well bred, being sired by Oakleigh Plate winner Swiss Ace and out of top race mare Rose O'War.

However, she had trialled only fairly before her first start on Saturday.

Trainer Stuart Kendrick decided to put blinkers on the filly and it did the job, with her bouncing straight to the lead.

"It really switched her on and I think she can go on now to win some handy races. She will run in the fringe stakes races during the winter carnival," Kendrick said.

He leased the filly from breeder Stu Ramsay after she failed to reach her reserve at the yearling sales.

Kendrick won with another filly by Swiss Ace, Marseille En Fleur, at Doomben on Wednesday.

"They are a very good breed on all types of tracks," he said.

Acceptile jockey Damian Browne said the gelding had again shown plenty of heart after getting back in the middle stages.
