Limestone scratched from Bendigo race

Friday 31 March 2017, 1:00pm

The complexion of the VOBIS Gold Rush has changed with odds-on favourite Limestone a scratching from the $250,000 race for two-year-olds at Bendigo.

The Blue Diamond fillies Preview winner and Prelude runner-up was the $1.90 favourite for Saturday's race before being withdrawn on Friday.

It now leaves the Mick Price-trained colt, first starter Sun Quan, as the $3.60 favourite in the race restricted to horses nominated for the VOBIS Gold Series in Victoria.

Limestone's trainer Darren Weir had flagged the prospect of the filly's scratching on radio station RSN927 earlier on Friday, saying she might not be ready.

Limestone's most recent start was the Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies on February 11.

"There's a chance she'll go to Adelaide next week," Weir said.

"There's nothing wrong. It would just enable us to give her a couple more gallops.

"She just had a bit of time in the paddock and may be just a bit underdone for tomorrow."

The Listed Dequetteville Stakes (1050m) for two-year-old fillies is at Morphettville on Saturday week.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained colt Speed Street finished second on debut at Moonee Valley and is now on the second line of betting for the VOBIS Gold Rush at $4 alongside stakes winner Wait For No One, a last-start seventh in the Group One Blue Diamond, at $4.20.

Limestone is one of three scratchings already from the field of 12.
