Craig Williams cleared for Randwick rides

Friday 31 March 2017, 1:20pm

Jockey Craig Williams has been given the all-clear to take his rides on the opening day of The Championships at Randwick.

Williams suffered concussion in a post-race fall from stricken horse The Gold Trail in the Mornington Cup last Saturday and needed a medical clearance to take his two rides at Randwick a week later.

In a video posted on the Williams twitter account, Racing Victoria's medical consultant Dr Gary Zimmerman said Williams had recovered well from his concussion.

"He's fully back to normal," Zimmerman said.

"He's passed his compulsory neurological cogstate test and has a clearance to ride on the weekend."

Williams rides $2.50 favourite Big Duke in the Chairman's Handicap and $31 chance Rebel Dane in the TJ Smith Stakes.

He was also booked to ride Tosen Stardom in The Doncaster Mile but the Darren Weir-trained horse has been scratched from the Group One race after drawing the outside gate.

Weir has indicated Tosen Stardom is likely to run in the Group One All-Aged Stakes at Randwick on April 15.
