Hugh Bowman leading rider at Championships

Saturday 8 April 2017, 6:07pm

Winx's jockey Hugh Bowman has claimed his third successive Nathan Berry medal on the same day he steered the champion to her 17th consecutive win in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

The medal is named for the late jockey who died in 2014 from a rare form of epilepsy and is awarded to the rider who scores the most points over the two days of The Championships.

Bowman also claimed the Group One Australian Oaks on Saturday aboard New Zealand filly Bonneval.

"The Nathan Berry medal is one of the most prestigious awards in racing and honours a young man who was extremely popular with his peers and within the racing community," Racing NSW chief executive Peter V'Landys said.

Bowman said it was an honour to win again.

"I am humbled to have won the Nathan Berry Medal once again," he said.

"I can tell you all those boys in the jockeys' room want nothing more than to win this special award that honours Nathan, a rider we all admired."
