Myboycharlie relocates to Bowness Stud

Friday 21 April 2017, 10:07am

Bowness Stud, Young, is to become the new Australian home of Myboycharlie (Ire), sire of the triple Group 1 winning racemare Jameka.

Bowness Stud principal John North has confirmed that the prolific Danehill-line stallion is to join the Bowness Stud roster in southern New South Wales, providing easier access for the strong contingent of Victorian-based broodmare owners looking to use the sire of the world’s current highest rated staying racemare.

The sire of close on 250 individual winners worldwide, Myboycharlie has established himself as a stallion capable of producing quality performers in all facets of domestic competition.

Obviously, Jameka is the clear standout. The winner of this season’s Caulfield Cup (G1) and BMW (G1), the 4-year-old’s formidable race record also includes the 2015 VRC Oaks (G1) in her Classic season and another five Group 1 placings over distances ranging from 1600m-2400m.

A European Group 1 winning 2-year-old of the very highest order himself, Myboycharlie’s other notable progeny in Australia feature the ATC Sires’ Produce (G1) winning juvenile Peggy Jean, as well as the Group winning sprinters Charlie Boy, Blueberry Hill and Zelady’s Night Out.

Myboycharlie has also proven himself to be a Group/Grade 1 sire overseas. His most prominent runners in the northern hemisphere include Euro Charline, winner of the Arlington Park Beverley D. Stakes (G1) in North America and a placegetter in three top-echelon black-type events staged in England and Dubai.

The 2016 European racing season also witnessed Myboycharlie prove to be the Leading 2YO Sire in France by prizemoney (€481,435) and individual winners (17). The impact he made last season saw his services secured by Haras du Mezeray for the current northern hemisphere breeding season.

In making the news public, Bowness principal John North remarked: “We are very pleased to be adding a stallion of Myboycharlie’s quality to our roster. He should make strong appeal to plenty of breeders in our area because of his ability to produce 2- and 3-year-old runners suitable for the BOBS scheme, as well as a horse such as Jameka that has trained on to become the best home-grown stayer in Australia.”

North added: “We are especially keen to encourage broodmare owners with mares by sire-sons of the two great brothers Sadler’s Wells and Fairy King. It’s worth pointing out that a significant percentage of Myboycharlie’s best runners have been produced by daughters of Lago Delight (by Encosta de Lago, by Fairy King), Falbrav (by Fairy King), Sadler’s Wells, King of Kings (by Sadler’s Wells) and Helissio (by Fairy King). It’s solid enough evidence to suggest a creditable nick.”

Myboycharlie is to stand alongside Bon Hoffa, Bullet Train (GB) and Walking or Dancing (NZ) this coming season. His service fee has been set at $8800 (inc. GST).
