Oklahoma Girl keeps perfect record at mile

Saturday 22 April 2017, 1:55pm

Oklahoma Girl will likely figure in Chris Waller's assault on the Queensland winter carnival.

Waller has several candidates to take north and the three-year-old filly staked her claim by justifying her favouritism for the ATC Heritage Handicap.

"Three goes at the mile for three wins, that's telling us something. She's probably booked herself a trip to Queensland at some stage," Waller said.

Oklahoma Girl defeated stablemate Sizzling Bullet ($5.50) by a neck with The Pinnacle ($5) a short neck away third.

Waller said Oklahoma Girl would probably line-up 2000m at Rosehill on May 6 ahead of an excursion to Brisbane.

"She is going well, she wants to put her head down and settle as soon as the barriers open and she's obviously strong late."

Jockey Tommy Berry noted her progress from her win at Warwick Farm on April 12.

"It's amazing what a win in an easier race at Warwick Farm can do for a horse like this, she's really improved," he said.

Waller said his biggest issue was to divvy up where his three-year-olds perform.

"That's why we sent Egg Tart from this race to the Schweppes (Australasian) Oaks."

The Group One Oaks at Morphettville over 2000m on May 6 could also be an option for Oklahoma Girl.

"I wouldn't be against running two in the Oaks if Oklahoma Girl happened to be the right one. We've got about 10 horses we've got to separate."
