Jim Byrne brings up treble on Tiyatrolani

Saturday 22 April 2017, 3:35pm

Jockey Jim Byrne ensured he would begin a suspension on Saturday night on a high after bringing up treble on Tiyatrolani at Doomben.

Trainer Tony Gollan's new preparation tactics paid off when Tiyatrolani ($13) held on by a nose to beat River Race ($7.50) in the Listed Mick Dittman Plate (1050m).

"I didn't give her a jump-out or a trial this time in. Last year she was a real speed horse but this time she is settling better," Gollan said.

"Whether we press on to the better races in the winter will be up to Eureka Stud who race her. But she got black type today and that was important.

"She sat behind the pace today and finished very strongly. I had no hesitation stepping her out to 1300 metres in the summer and that is a winter option."

Jeff Lloyd, who rode River Racer, said it had been a great run as she had to come from last at the turn.

"I didn't think I had won but there wasn't much in it," he said.

Earlier Byrne brought up his 100th Queensland winner for the season on El Campeador ($17) who surprised Gollan.

Byrne, who also won on Mr Lebrock, is second on both the state and Brisbane premierships behind runaway Jeff Lloyd.

He has also ridden two winners in the northern rivers to give him overall 103 wins for the season.

Byrne begins a week's suspension on Saturday night and will miss next Saturday's Eagle Farm meeting.
