Heavy rain forces Kilmore to be abandoned

Wednesday 26 April 2017, 4:01pm

Heavy rain with the forecast of more before the provincial meeting at Kilmore has forced its cancellation.

Racing Victoria stewards inspected the track at midday on Wednesday and judged the track unsuitable for Thursday's meeting.

The Kilmore track has received 76mm of rain in the past week, 10mm within the last 24 hours with the prospect of more overnight.

Trainers of the 67 horses engaged at Kilmore were contacted to determine if they would run if the meeting was transferred to the synthetic track at Geelong, but approximately 50 per cent said they would not which would have left between 35 to 40 runners over the eight races.

Recent rain across Victoria meant there were no opportunities to transfer the meeting to a suitable grass track and the meeting has been abandoned.
