Three riders suspended at Canterbury

Wednesday 26 April 2017, 6:38pm

Josh Parr and Blake Shinn have been suspended for careless riding following separate incidents over the concluding stages of a race at Canterbury.

Shinn pleaded guilty after Racing NSW stewards said he did not take sufficient action to prevent his mount Nonpareil shifting in and impeding race favourite Dagny and Kerrin McEvoy at the 250-metre mark.

He was suspended for five meetings from May 12 - the date a ban imposed for careless riding at Randwick on Sydney Cup Day last Saturday was due to expire.

Shinn will be free to resume riding on May 19 but will miss the Scone Cup carnival.

Parr pleaded not guilty after stewards charged him with allowing Leami Astray to shift in and hamper Viatrix, ridden by Tommy Berry, also 250m short of the post.

He claimed Shinn's actions had a knock-on effect that contributed to Berry's predicament but after a short deliberation he was found guilty.

Stewards reduced the penalty from a six meeting benchmark after taking into account Shinn's actions and Parr's disciplinary record.

He was outed for four meetings in a suspension that starts on May 4, leaving him free to ride again on May 10.

Earlier on Wednesday Kerrin McEvoy was outed for three meetings after allowing the Chris Waller-trained winner Noire ($3.50) to shift in on Cymbalism ($5.50) at the 100m mark of the Vinery Plate (1100m).

McEvoy's suspension runs from April 30 to May 5 meaning he will not miss a Saturday meeting.
