Munce wins another stakes race

Saturday 29 April 2017, 2:33pm

Trainer Chris Munce has racked up his fourth two-year-old stakes win of the season with second stringer Saint Patricks Day winning the Dalrello Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm.

Munce also saddled up Ours To Keep ($4.40) who ran a solid race at his first start back from a spell to finish fifth on Saturday.

But Saint Patricks Day ($26) finished strongly to beat Capital Gain ($8) by a long neck with another 1-1/2 lengths to Snitzkraft ($2 fav).

Munce has already won juvenile features with Ours To Keep (B J McLachlan Stakes, Phelan Ready Stakes) and Champ Elect (Calaway Gal Stakes).

He has a big opinion of Saint Patricks Day who cost $40,000 at last year's Magic Millions Sales.

"He was too immature to set for the Magic Millions Classic but he has really come on strongly. He won very well at Caloundra first up and I gave him a great chance today," Munce said.

"I couldn't believe it when they bet $61 early on. I even tipped him as a top chance in a radio interview on Friday so it was no shock."

Munce will now set Saint Patricks Day for the Group Two Champagne Stakes in a fortnight followed by the BRC Sires' Produce Stakes and Group One J J Atkins Stakes.

"I think he is well and truly up to the 1600 metres of a Group One race like the Atkins," Munce said.

Luke Dittman said Snitzkraft had travelled well to the home turn but lost his confidence when he let him go in the straight.

"He handles soft tracks but not that type of track. It was good run," he said.
