Rain in Brisbane has prompted a change of plans for The Monstar who will be given his chance at Group One level in the Doomben 10,000.

Trainer Brett Cavanough, who recently relocated his stable from Albury to Scone, also had the sprinter entered for the Ortensia Stakes on Saturday on his new home track.

But after hearing on Tuesday about the wet weather predicted in Brisbane up until Saturday, Cavanough immediately made arrangements to send The Monstar north.

"He will leave Scone tomorrow and arrive in Toowoomba on Thursday," Cavanough said.

"He's not the best traveller so I'll get him up there and he will stay with Jake Capewell who has a nice quiet property.

"The wet track is definitely the key.

"I don't think he will be out of place. He's had no issues and he's really screwed down.

"He has a good first-up record and a great record on wet tracks.

"He ticks a few boxes."

The winner of the Listed Razor Sharp at Randwick in November, The Monstar will be racing at Group One level for the first time.

He is a $26 chance in the sprint which has been reduced from 1350m to 1200m this year, a distance that suits the six-year-old who has an impressive seven wins and two placings from 12 starts on soft tracks.

"James Orman will ride him and he'll be hungry for a Group One win so that's another positive," Cavanough said.

The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Russian Revolution, winner of the Group One Galaxy in March, is the $3.50 favourite ahead of Fell Swoop and last year's 10,000 winner Music Magnate, both at $7.
