Memories of his best day at the races came flooding back for premier trainer Tony Gollan when first starter Prue's Angel scored an upset win at Ipswich on Wednesday.

Prue's Angel ($8) sped out of the extreme outside barrier to lead all the way and beat the favourite Heart of Australia ($1.60) by 1 1/4 lengths in the Cup Day 17 June Handicap.

The three-year-old filly carries the colours of Eureka Stud which were also worn by Spirit Of Boom and Temple Of Boom when they ran the quinella in the 2014 Doomben 10,000 for Gollan.

"It was apt Prue's Angel finally got to the races and won in 10,000 week," Gollan said.

"She is by the sire Sequalo (Spirit of Boom's sire) out Piccolo Music who is of a half-sister to Temple Spirit - the dam of the Spirit Of Boom and Temple Of Boom," Gollan said.

"In other words Prue's Angel is closely related to two Group One winners and the two horses which gave me a great thrill when they ran one-two in the Doomben 10,000.

"I think there are a couple of others out of the family who are colts. But Prue's Angel is worth a bit as a broodmare now when she retires."

Gollan said Prue's Angel had shown early potential but a series of problems saw her sent for a long spell.

"Prue's Angel is raced by a syndicate made up of friends of my wife Jane and friends of Grania McAlpine (the wife of Eureka studmaster) Scott McAlpine."

Grania McAlpine is also the part owner of Pardoe who scored an impressive win in the Summer Tix on Sale Handicap for trainer Tony Sears.

"Pardoe has improved lengths since I put blinkers on him and he has improved since his big win at Warwick at his previous start," Sears said.

The meeting was put back one race after apprentice Matt McGillivray was injured when his mount Solo Melody reared in the enclosure and struck him in the head.

McGillivray was taken to hospital with concussion.
