Doomben surface soft for 10,000

Thursday 11 May 2017, 12:53pm

The Doomben track is expected to recover from overnight rain to be in the soft range for the first Group One meeting of the Brisbane carnival.

Track manager Jim Roberts walked the track on Thursday morning and said some sections of the home straight were heavy but it was better in the back straight.

"There are some sections in the straight which are a heavy eight so we have to rate the track on the worst going, so a heavy eight at the moment," Roberts said.

"But it is a glorious day and the track should dry out further. Provided we have no more rain I would expect it to be well in the soft range for Saturday."

Doomben has received about 15mm of rain in the past few days.

Saturday's Doomben 10,000 has attracted a field of 15.
