Nostalgic 10,000 ride for Larry Cassidy

Thursday 11 May 2017, 2:02pm

Jockey Larry Cassidy will feel nostalgic when he dons the colours for Doomben 10,000 hopeful Japonisme.

Japonisme, who is trained by Chris Waller, carries the all cerise colours of the Ingham family who raced many famous horses under the Woodlands banner before Sheikh Mohammed bought the operation almost a decade ago.

Patriarch Bob Ingham then set up a smaller racing concern with his family.

Cassidy was the No.1 rider when John Hawkes was the Inghams' trainer and he won three Sydney jockeys premierships.

He has ridden 45 Group One winners including a Doncaster on the champion mare Sunline, Queensland Derby (Freemason, Court Ruler) J J Atkins (Ravarda) and Queensland Oaks (Arctic Scent).

But Cassidy's biggest win was wearing the all cerise to score on Arena in the 1998 Victoria Derby.

"Those colours do bring back memories. I think the last time I rode for the Inghams was on a two-year-old at the Gold Coast seven or eight years ago. It was also trained by Chris Waller," Cassidy said.

"Japonisme has barrier one and I am told he trialled very well at Rosehill. But he won't want it too wet."

Among Cassidy's other rides is the Brian Smith-trained Order Again who contests the Group Three Rough Habit Plate (2000m) on Saturday as a lead-up to the Queensland Derby.
