Melanie Bolwell to return to Sydney soon

Thursday 11 May 2017, 4:09pm

Injured apprentice rider Melanie Bolwell has been cleared to fly home to Sydney from the Gold Coast.

Bolwell's father Jason said doctors at the Gold Coast Hospital where his daughter has been for the past month, had cleared her to travel on a commercial flight in the company of a carer who will be her mother Narelle.

She will be relocated when a bed becomes available at Liverpool Hospital, expected to be in less than two weeks.

Bolwell suffered bleeding around the brain and fractures in her neck and foot in a three-horse fall at Warialda in country NSW on April 8 which claimed the life of popular senior rider Darren Jones.

Fellow jockey Leanne Henry is recovering from a collarbone injury.
