Promising stayer BLANCO CARA franked her recent 5th in the Gold Coast Bracelet by disposing of a C1 & Maiden field at Newcastle Saturday, lapping up the 2340m though hardly relishing the Soft 7 ground. Given a peach of a ride by Josh Adams the 3yo filly lodged a claim for Saturday week's Queensland OAKS with her comfortable 1.3 length victory.
Trainer John Thompson has always rated BLANCO CARA and had eyes on the ATC OAKS but wet tracks and postponed meetings compromised her campaign. The Qld bid gathered momentum after the filly ran on resolutely to finish 5th in LISTED company on the Gold Coast against a number of OAKS contenders.
The major stumbling block to heading north is the ongoing problems with the Eagle Farm surface which has been playing like a significantly affected track regardless of weather. John will see how she comes through this race before deciding whether to have a crack at the GROUP 1 feature.
BLANCO'S win was Proven Thoroughbreds' 14th for the year.
