Jockey Regan Bayliss has escaped surgery on his fractured left wrist following a race fall at Geelong.

He was injured on Friday when the Lindsay Park-trained two-year-old Amschel fell.

On Monday, Bayliss saw Racing Victoria's doctor Gary Zimmerman who gave the jockey an indication he could be back riding in six weeks.

"Fortunately everything stayed in place," Bayliss said.

"There's a fracture through the bone but structure-wise it's all in place so it can heal naturally which I would rather for the long term.

"I want to make sure it heals properly, get back riding and get some momentum before the spring carnival comes around.

"I'll do all the rehab that is required and still keep fit doing a lot of walking so when I do come back I'll be as fit as I've ever been."

Bayliss said although there was never a good time to be sidelined through injury, winter was better than any other.

Not long back from a suspension for a ride in Sydney during the autumn carnival, Bayliss had been in sparkling form.

He rode a career-high five winners at Geelong last Tuesday and a double at Pakenham last Thursday night.

Those seven winners were all for the Lindsay Park team of David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig for whom Bayliss rode his first Group One winner aboard Redkirk Warrior in the Newmarket Handicap at Flemington in March.
