Qld stewards to tackle Doomben noise

Sunday 4 June 2017, 10:03am

Queensland stewards will ask Doomben officials to lower music noise levels from corporate tents when horses go on to the track at the Stradbroke Handicap meeting.

Several jockeys and trainers complained during Saturday's Oaks meeting that horses were being spooked by the booming music near the pathway to the track.

Visiting Victorian jockey Damian Lane made it official when he complained to stewards after the last race.

"You aren't the only one to complain and it has been a problem for a while. We will speak with Brisbane Racing Club officials and see what we can do," chief steward Allan Reardon said.

It has been an unusual carnival for stewards as last week at Eagle Farm jockeys complained they could not see in the last race because the sun was shining directly up the home straight.

Stewards are also waiting to interview a man who ran across the straight during a race at Eagle Farm last week.

"We have asked the police to provide details and we will hold an inquiry once they provide us with his personal details," Reardon said.

Despite a switch from Eagle Farm to Doomben and public transport delays, Brisbane Race Club officials were happy with the Oaks day turnout which was estimated around 10,000.

The official committee lunch was among several which were cancelled because of lack of a suitable venue and there will be no Breakfast With The Stars on Tuesday ahead of Saturday's Stradbroke meeting.
