Weather to play role in Eye Liner

Sunday 11 June 2017, 4:07pm

The weather will play a major part in the make-up of the field for the Listed Eye Liner Stakes at Ipswich.

Several horses who failed to make the field for the $1.5million Stradbroke Handicap at Doomben on Saturday were expected to run a week later in the Eye Liner (1350m).

But rain is predicted in Ipswich for the next four days and not expected to clear until later in the week,

Trainer Matt Dunn has earmarked the Eye Liner for Perfect Dare who was third in the Group Two Moreton Cup at his last start.

But Dunn said Perfect Dare had an aversion to wet tracks and he would have to watch the weather.

Likewise, Toby Edmonds is keeping tabs on the rain for The Virginian who was first emergency for the Stradbroke but missed a run.

"I had the Eye Liner ear marked for him but we will just have to wait and see now," Edmonds said.

Edmonds indicated mare Col 'N' Lil, who had her first run for him on Saturday would race on for another season.

But Col 'N'Lil was now unlikely to run in the Ipswich Cup on Saturday after being unplaced on Saturday.

"She will probably go for good spell and then race on until next winter," Edmonds said.

The weather also influenced Desleigh Forster to miss the Eye Liner with Too Good To Refuse who was beaten a nose at Doomben on Saturday.

"The Eye Liner was to be his race after he was fourth emergency in the Stradbroke. But I didn't want to run him on a rain-affected track at Ipswich so ran at Doomben," she said.

"He will now go to the Glasshouse Mountains Sprint in a fortnight at Caloundra."
