One ride is all it took Michael Cahill to be convinced Metallurgical can win Saturday's Bribie Handicap at Eagle Farm.
Cahill rode Metallurgical when the gelding finished second to multiple Group One placegetter Buffering in an 800m barrier trial at Eagle Farm on March 12.
"Just on the feel he gave me that day I was happy to be on him in the Bribie," Cahill said.
"I hadn't ridden the horse before but I thought he trialled very well behind Buffering who we know is an outstanding sprinter."
Metallurgical impressed Cahill with the way he finished off the trial behind Buffering who was clocked to run his final 400m in 22.94 seconds on a heavy track.
Although the six-year-old has drawn awkwardly in barrier 13 in the Bribie, Cahill doesn't see it as too much of a setback.
"From what I've been told he likes to settle into stride in his races and saved for a late burst," he said.
"Getting back in the field mightn't be such a big disadvantge because there looks to be good speed and hopefully it will be set up for a horse like him."
Cahill had several options in the Bribie including River Lad, who he rode to win the Gold Coast Stakes on March 16, as well as topweight Adebisi who was scratched from the Group One The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill.
Trainer Desleigh Forster is leaning towards a Bribie start with Adebisi but will make a final decision on Saturday morning.
"I'm pretty sure he'll run but they're predicting storms and it all depends on how the track comes up on Saturday morning," she said.
In The Galaxy Adebisi drew barrier 16 which was the reason for his scratching.
"Even though he had no weight it's too hard from that alley against the top quality sprinters," she said.
"It's a shame. I was dirty he drew so bad because I think he would've been competitive had he come up with a good alley."
Plans beyond the Bribie for Adebisi are unclear but the Group Two Victory Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm on April 27 is an option.
Forster's long-term goal for Adebisi is a Melbourne spring carival campaign to target sprint races at Flemington and Moonee Valley.
