Schweida won't miss Girl's Tiara run

Friday 23 June 2017, 2:50pm

It is 12 months since trainer Kelly Schweida missed one of the biggest wins of his career but he won't be making the same mistake this year.

Schweida was in Rockhampton saddling the Cup winner Ruling Force last year when mare Miss Cover Girl won the Group One Tattersall's Tiara.

He was in Rockhampton again on Thursday with Stella Ombra who was unplaced in the Newmarket.

But he was heading home on Friday to watch Miss Cover Girl attempt to win back-to-back Tiaras.

"I will be there because I would love to see Miss Cover Girl win. She faces a tough task from the wide barrier at the 1350 metre start," Schweida said.

"But she has a handy record at Doomben and at the distance. She is also getting fitter."

Miss Cover was originally raced by north Queensland businessman Kevin O'Keefe but she was bought for $500,000 by the Grandlodge racing syndicate at the recent Magic Millions Sales.

"I was lucky the new owners gave her back to me to have another crack at the Tiara. They are nice people and it would be good to win for them," Schweida said.

Schweida also has promising filly Cellargirl who is favourite in the $150,000 Furances@Aquis 2YO Plate (1200m).

"Aquis Stud has added $50,000 to the prize money and it is certainly a race worth winning," Schweida said.

"Cellargirl was a strong first-up winner and she should be a horse that matures into a good three-year-old around Magic Millions time next year."
