NSW dominates Brisbane winter carnival

Sunday 25 June 2017, 2:21pm

NSW trainers have again dominated the six Group One days of the Brisbane winter carnival which started with the Doomben 10,000 and ended with the Tattersall's Tiara.

Horses trained in NSW won six of the eight Group One races with the Peter and Paul Snowden partnership and Newcastle's Kris Lees each winning two.

NSW trained horses also won a further seven Group Two and Group Three races.

The revamped Adelaide carnival had an impact on the number of Victorian horses in Brisbane but Ciaron Maher led the way with Ruthven's win in the Group One Queensland Derby.

Eagle Farm trainer Paul Butterworth led the way for the Queensland with Capital Gain winning the Group One J J Atkins Stakes.

Local trainers also won five Group Three races.

The Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards combination were the best of the kiwi visitors with wins in the Group Two BRC Sires' Produce Stakes and Group Three Rough Habit Plate.
