$1.4 million colt disappoints in Hong Kong debut

A Group 1-placed juvenile in Australia finished a distant last in his Hong Kong debut at Sha Tin on Sunday.

Chimboraa.

Chimboraa, runner-up in the 2016 Group I Champagne Stakes (1600m) behind Prized Icon, was sold from the David Payne stable to Hong Kong interests for $1.4 million.

The son of Congrats made his first public appearance for more than a year in the Class 2 Amber Handicap (1200m) on the all weather track but failed to inspire with an 11-length defeat.

Chimboraa is trained by Francis Lui, who won his first Group I last month when consistent sprinter Lucky Bubbles prevailed in the Chairman's Sprint Prize (1200m).

Now a gelding and rising four, Chimboraa remains a maiden from seven starts.
