Girl Sunday in black-type bid at Rosehill

Monday 26 June 2017, 5:19pm

Girl Sunday will get a belated chance for black-type when she lines up in the Civic Stakes at Rosehill.

The Gerald Ryan-trained mare missed a start in Saturday's Group One Tattersall's Tiara in Brisbane as an emergency.

She was also nominated for a benchmark race at Randwick on the same day but Ryan opted to save her for Saturday's Listed Civic Stakes (1350m) at home rather than run her on a heavy track.

There were 17 nominations taken on Monday with the four-year-old to be ridden by stable apprentice James Innes on the minimum 53kg.

"There's no problem with her missing a race on Saturday and Rosehill won't be as wet as Randwick," Ryan said.

"When she was racing really well last spring she won three races with three weeks apart.

"As long as we don't get rain and the track is not heavy, she will be running."

The other feature race on the program, the Listed Winter Cup (2400m), attracted 13 entries including veteran Destiny's Kiss, winner of the race four years ago.

Innes is 11 wins behind Andrew Adkins on the apprentices' premiership table and hanging on to second place.

But with 23 wins he is under siege from Nick Heywood and Rachel King who are both on 22.

Heywood rode one winner on Saturday while King racked up three.

"James is riding really well at the moment but he doesn't get a lot of outside rides," Ryan said.

"He was in contention for the premiership but that looks impossible now."

Senior jockey Tim Clark will be aboard Heliosphere as he steps up to Saturday company in the 2YO Hcp (1400m) following his midweek win at Warwick Farm over 1600m on a heavy track at his second start on June 12.

"He has worked well and he will definitely run this week but the track will determine whether Magic Alibi and Mariquita run in the fillies and mares race," " Ryan said.
