Races added to Karaka Million program

Wednesday 5 July 2017, 8:01am

New Zealand's richest race day will now feature four Group races in addition to the Karaka Million for two-year-olds and a new $1 million race for three-year-olds.

The twilight meeting has also been moved from its traditional Sunday position to Saturday, January 27 at Ellerslie.

The $1 million Karaka Million Two-Year-Old (1200m) wil be run for the 11th time in conjunction with the inaugural Karaka Million 3YO Classic (1600m), both for NZ Bloodstock Karaka sale graduates.

The other races making up the six-race card are the Group Two Westbury Classic Fillies & Mares( 1400m), Group Three City Of Auckland Cup Open Handicap (2400m), Group Three Concorde Handicap Open Handicap (1200m) and the Group Three Mr Tiz Trophy 3yo (1200m).

"The Karaka Million Twilight Meeting is one of the great days on the New Zealand racing calendar," NZ Bloodstock managing director Andrew Seabrook said.

"The major upgrade to the race day with the move to Saturday, the running of two one million dollar races, and the four additional Group races will take it to a whole new level."
