Grahame Begg is still feeling his way with Canadian import Sense Of Pride but expects Saturday's Listed Angst Stakes to provide some answers.
Sense Of Pride was a dual Listed placegetter in Canada as a two-year-old and won two races on dirt over 1710m at Woodbine in Canada before coming to Australia.
The five-year-old mare, who is now raced in Sydney by prominent owners Geoff and Mary Grimish, will have her second Australian start in the 1400m feature race for fillies and mares at Rosehill.
Sense Of Pride made her Australian debut for the Begg stable on the Kensington track on September 23 when sixth in a 1300m fillies and mares benchmark event.
"It's all a learning curve with her and Saturday will tell us where we are going with her," Begg said.
"She's had a few little issues adapting to here but we're on top of her at the moment.
"I wouldn't be surprised to see her run in the money. It's hard to say she's going to be beating the better ones but she's going well."
Begg had Sense Of Pride nominated for a midweek race at Warwick Farm but decided not to take her there due to her big weight.
"I said let's wait and run her in this race on Saturday," he said.
"I know it's a bit hard, she's up in grade a bit but we'll get a bit of a line on her. She did run very well at her first start here and she's trained on well."
Begg said imported horses tend to take time to acclimatise and he expects Sense Of Pride to improve on whatever she does in her first preparation.
"She was bought to race here," Begg said.
"She's owned by Geoff Grimish who owns Red Tracer and Stout Hearted. He's always in the market of buying an imported horse."
Sense Of Pride is the outsider of the field at $31 with TAB fixed odds.
Last start Tibbie Stakes winner Nocturnelle is favourite at $4 ahead of the Guy Walter-trained Skyerush who was second to star mare More Joyous in the Golden Pendant (1400m) two weeks ago.
Skyerush's stablemate Forarainyday earned black type with her Golden Pendant third is on the fourth line of betting at $9.50 alongside Pane In The Glass.
