Slow build-up continues for Dream Finnish

Thursday 5 October 2017, 5:10pm

Trainer Michael Nolan will to continue to try to make amends for what he admits was an earlier mistake with Dream Finnish.

Dream Finnish will be aiming to cement her excellent second-up record when she tackles Saturday's Open Handicap (1400m) at the Gold Coast.

She was an impressive first-up winner at Ipswich two weeks ago which was her eighth victory at distances between 1200m and 1800m.

But Nolan has always thought Dream Finnish would make a more than handy middle distance horse.

"Dream Finnish has proved a really good mare . She always seems to race well first-up and second-up," Nolan said.

"I'm keen to get her to a middle distance, but this campaign we will take our time."

He was referring to Dream Finnish's previous campaign when she started in the Toowoomba Cup at her third run into the preparation.

"It was a mistake and all it did was flatten her. In the end I had to spell her. But since she's been back she has been great," Nolan said.

"We can take our time building up in distance and I think that is the way to go with her. Saturday is another good step."

Nolan also has Sir Donald resuming in the Benchmark 90 (1100m) with claiming apprentice Tiffani Brooker to ride.

Sir Donald is unbeaten in two starts at the Gold Coast and has won twice from three attempts first-up.
