Brilliant dual Group I winner Zoustar has made a good impression with his first runner Sunlight finishing a close third in the Listed VRC Maribyrnong Trial at Flemington on Saturday.
Trained by Tony McEvoy, Sunlight was favourite for the 1000 metre scamper having won her only trial at Cranbourne.
She raced up on the pace and tried hard to the line to be beaten just over a length by Nomothaj and Ranier.
A $300,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Widden Stud draft for Aquis/McEvoy Mitchell Racing/Blue Sky Bloodstock, Sunlight is a half-sister to Group III placed Sheikha from former speedy filly Solar Charged, winner of the Group III ATC Kindergarten Stakes at her second start.
Zoustar splits his time between Widden Stud and Woodside Park in Victoria, where he is standing this spring at a fee of $44,000.
