Trainer Chris Waller says the only thing Egg Tart suffered with her recent eye injury was the chance to win prize money.

The problem cost the dual Oaks winner a start in the $1 million Epsom Handicap at Randwick but she is in Melbourne and ready for a shot at the Toorak Handicap at Caulfield on Saturday.

Waller and his staff had tried to get Egg Tart to the post for the Epsom but fought a losing battle.

As soon as the four-year-old was put on medication the condition cleared.

"It was disappointment more than anything," Waller said.

"The concern was what's wrong with the eye. They can go downhill very quickly and cause major problems.

"We had an eye specialist looking at the eye as well as my vet and they could see the smallest ulcer which happens via kickback or a trauma to the eye.

"It was so small it was a matter of dissolving but it wouldn't until we stopped the work and gave her some anti inflammatories which got rid of it overnight."

Waller said Egg Tart was restricted to walking for two days while on the treatment and didn't miss any serious work.

"She's had a trial since that problem behind a couple of The Everest runners on Saturday, so she's fit enough," Waller said.

"She's had the first-up run over 1300 metres behind Deploy and she'll enjoy the mile."

Victory on Saturday could set up a clash with stablemate Winx in the Cox Plate, but Waller says she will need to win impressively.

Otherwise she will run at Flemington on November 4 in either the Kennedy Mile or Myer Stakes.

Egg Tart is one of four runners for Waller in the Toorak and is the $5.50 favourite.

His other runners are Tom Melbourne ($7), Comin' Through ($10) and Omei Sword ($12).
