O'Brien remains on 24 G1s for the year

Monday 16 October 2017, 6:12pm

Trainer Aidan O'Brien remains one short of the world record for the number of Group One wins in a calendar year after the Woodbine International meeting in Toronto.

Bullards Alley was a 50-1 winner of the Canadian International Stakes at Woodbine on Sunday night (Monday AEDT), with the O'Brien-trained Idaho fourth.

O'Brien and jockey Ryan Moore were also unsuccessful with their other runner, Rain Goddess, who trailed home last in the E.P. Taylor Stakes won by the Andrew Balding-trained Blond Me.

The mark of 25 set by the late Bobby Frankel has long been threatened by O'Brien, who reached 23 victories in 2001 and 2008.

O'Brien will have Johannes Vermeer running in the Caulfield Cup in Melbourne on Saturday and a large team at the Champions meeting at Ascot.
