Harry Angel on target for Champions Sprint

Tuesday 17 October 2017, 5:57am

Harry Angel remains on target to land a third Group One win for the season in the British Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot.

The Clive Cox-trained three-year-old is the world's highest-rated sprinter in the latest rankings, taking the title from Australian Chautauqua.

He is one of 14 horses remaining in Saturday's six-furlong (1200m) race as he bids to add to his victories in the July Cup and Sprint Cup.

A third clash with Caravaggio is on the cards with that colt one of four sprinters entered by trainer Aidan O'Brien, the others being Intelligence Cross, Washington DC and Alphabet.

Last year's winner The Tin Man, from the yard of James Fanshawe, and the Karl Burke-trained Quiet Reflection are also in the frame.

Seventh Heaven, Hydrangea, Rhododendron and Wild Irish Rover are all in contention for O'Brien in the Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes.

Big Orange and Order Of St George, the first two home in the Ascot Gold Cup, could renew rivalry in the Long Distance Cup.

The former, trained by Michael Bell, has not been seen since he finished second in the Goodwood Cup behind the Gosden-trained Stradivarius, who also features among 19 confirmations.

Irish St Leger winner Order Of St George is one of three possible runners for O'Brien, who has also left in Seventh Heaven and Idaho who finished fourth in Sunday's Canadian International at Woodbine.
