Baker unsure about Collateral doing damage

Friday 3 November 2017, 5:38pm

Bjorn Baker will pit stablemates Collateral and Embley against each other at Rosehill with the trainer mounting a case for both.

Collateral was denied a first-up win over 1400 metres by a nose when pipped by Improvement.

He faces a potentially tricky step up in distance to 1800m in the Turner Freedman Handicap at Rosehill on Saturday.

"You can't knock his form. He's been super consistent. It was a great run first-up and he's been very good since," Baker said.

"He might be a bit vulnerable going up from 1400 to 1800."

Collateral has never tackled 1800m second-up with his first win over that distance five starts into his first preparation when he was trained in Queensland by Darlene Duryea.

Collateral carries 54kg while Embley has top weight of 60kg and is coming back in distance and grade after running seventh in the Group Three Craven Plate (2000m) on October 14.

"Embley's got the current form in the books but there's a bit of a weight difference too so there's probably not much between them," Baker said.
