Patience pays with Care To Think

Thursday 11 January 2018, 3:45pm

Matt Dunn's patience with the promising Care To Think is paying off with the gelding set to have his 11th start when he lines up in the $1 million Magic Millions Cup at the Gold Coast.

Care To Think is rated so highly he remains the favourite in most markets despite drawing barrier 19.

He confirmed Dunn's high rating of him when he made it four wins in a row in the Buffering Quality at Doomben at his last start.

The gelding looked to be in trouble between horses at the 100m but charged through a gap to win running away.

Dunn is confident Care To Think is well above average but is playng down Group One ambitions.

"I've never had a Group One winner so I am not so sure about what they are like on the way through," Dunn said.

"But I hope this horse can take me to where I want to be as a Group One trainer.

"One thing about him is that he goes to a new level every start. It is very pleasing."

Dunn said he earmarked Care To Think as a horse with a heap of potential early in his career.

"It is why we have been patient with him. He has been given every chance to mature," he said.

Care To Think is a son of champion So You Think and cost $16,000 as a yearling.

"He is shaping as a real bargain," Dunn said.

The Murwillumbah trainer is having a great run and trained six winners on his home track on Sunday.

"I have had four in a day before but to get six was a genuine thrill," he said.
