Apprentice Lani Fancourt back from injury

Monday 15 January 2018, 2:47pm

Leading Brisbane apprentice Alannah Fancourt is set to resume riding after a long lay-off with injury.

Fancourt has been among Brisbane's top apprentices for the past two years but broke her arm in a fall at Murwillumbah in August.

She had a plate inserted in her arm but it became infected forcing her on the sidelines for longer than planned.

Fancourt has been riding track work for more than a month and rode two winners at the Doomben trials last week.

Her manager Cameron Partington said Fancourt was fit and ready to resume riding.

"She has one ride on Wednesday at Ipswich, a couple on Friday and hopefully more at the weekend," Partington said.

Fancourt, who is indentured to Tony Gollan, has ridden 168 winners including 59 in the metropolitan area where she can still claim 1.5kg.

She will ride Rock 'N' Summer for her boss in a 1200m-handicap for three-year-olds.

Fellow rider Jim Orman hopes to return in six to eight weeks after suffering a back fracture at Caloundra last Friday week.

"I have been able to do a lot of walking and the doctor says that is a good thing," Orman said.
