While a number of Sydney's biggest-name jockeys were in action at the feature Caulfield meeting on Saturday, Jim Cassidy was at his best at Rosehill lifting Drinks All Round to a narrow win.
After leading during the Green Valley TAB Handicap (1800m), Drinks All Round was clearly headed by favourite Floor Show in the final 100m but the John O'Shea-trained mare was able to fight back late to win by a nose.
O'Shea was at Caulfield for Guineas day and stable foreman Bryce Heys said a rider of Cassidy's calibre should have been on display on the big stage in Melbourne also.
But he was happy to have had him on Drinks All Round in the Rosehill race.
"We were happy to maximise our opportunities today by using a Hall of Fame jockey who should be riding at Caulfield today," Heys said.
"Jim was well-aware of what he had underneath him and John had set her for this race today so it was a good result."
Cassidy, who will be at Caulfield next weekend to ride the favourite Glencadam Gold in the Caulfield Cup, said it was a tough effort from Drinks All Round.
"You're never beaten until you are over the line," Cassidy said.
