Successive black-type wins has the Chris Waller-trained Nocturnelle on course for an autumn Group One campaign.

Sent out the $3.50 favourite, Nocturnelle defied a wide passage in the $100,000 Listed Angst Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill to defeat Angelus ($14) by a long neck with Skyerush ($5) closing late to finish a long head away third.

Waller said he was reluctant to press on to Melbourne with Nocturnelle and would prefer to look at a race like the Coolmore Classic next autumn, which is run over the same course as Saturday's race.

"We've always looked after her because she was a bit of a baby, but we're starting to get the rewards now," Waller said.

"To go to big races in Melbourne I think you need to make it your mission and have them set for it, not have it as an afterthought.

"Probably a race like the Coolmore might be a target. I know it's fairytale stuff but I would rather do that than look at something like the Myer Classic in Melbourne."

Nocturnelle broke through at stakes level to win the Listed Tibbie Stakes (1400m) at Newcastle last month and backed it up with her tough Rosehill performance.

"The last two starts she's gone to a new level," Waller said.

"She had everything go her way last start and she won well but today she had everything against her and she still won. So that tells you she's got good ability."

Nocturnelle's win came after Waller produced a first in his training career, with his four runners in the FAL Construction Group Handicap (2000m) filling the first four placings.

Hoylonny defeated stablemates History No Hurdle, Coup Acclaim and Studio.

While Waller wasn't too keen on the idea of a Melbourne campaign for Nocturnelle, the two placegetters are bound for Victoria.

Angelus, who was having her first start since an unplaced effort in the Queensland Oaks in June, is being aimed at a mares race during Melbourne Cup week while Skyerush is likely to go to a Group Three mares race on Cox Plate day at Moonee Valley.

"She has got a stakes placing to her name today which is what we were hoping for," Snowden's stable foreman Brad Widdup said of Angelus.

"She was strong to the line and strong through the line which was good to see."
