Timing right for Brook Magic's return

Friday 8 June 2018, 5:25pm

Brook Magic can take a step towards a renewed quest for black-type when she resumes racing in favourable conditions at Randwick.

Trainer Joe Pride will run the three-year-old filly in Saturday's #Theraces Handicap (1100m), with an eye to getting her to Listed or Group company over winter.

Although Brook Magic has two wins from four starts on good tracks, Pride believes the sprinter is better suited to rain-affected ground ahead of her first race since March.

"I'm pleased with the way she's placed. She's had a couple of trials so she's nice and fit for her first-up run," he said.

Pride took her to Caulfield last August for the Group Three Quezette Stakes (1100m) and he was open to a return to Melbourne.

"Definitely, you just have to find the right races for her. Getting her to run a strong 1100 is an important step along the way," he said.

In-form apprentice Jean Van Overmeire sat on her for the first time at the Warwick Farm barrier trials on Monday and will claim 2kg.

"I don't use claims that often but this gets her in the race at a very reasonable weight (55.5kg) compared to her main opposition."

Brook Magic was the $4 second elect with the TAB on Friday in a market led by She Knows and Revenire at $3.10.

Pride said Passage Of Time ($17) needed to produce in the Australian Turf Club Sprint (1200m) on a suitable track to prolong his campaign while veteran Destiny's Kiss shows no signs of slowing down as he heads to the Stayers Cup as the $2.90 favourite.
