Warren keeping options open with Bel Sonic

Monday 11 June 2018, 4:59pm

Jason Warren is keeping his options open with three-year-old Bel Sonic and stablemate Tarcoola Spirit who are both among nominations for a heat of the Creswick Series at Moonee Valley.

The trainer will wait until after Bel Sonic and Tarcoola Spirit gallop before deciding whether they line up in the $120,000 race over 1200m.

Warren also entered Miss Toorak Flyer who ran third at Mornington on Monday.

"Bel Sonic's an each-way chance of starting," Warren said.

"We should have one in that race. I just want to work both horses (Bel Sonic and Tarcoola Spirit) tomorrow morning and decide.

"Tarcoola Spirit is also nominated in the 1000 metre race (for fillies), so we may run her in that."

Warren said She Keeps Nosecret could also run in Saturday's 1000m fillies race.

Bel Sonic has finished runner-up in both his starts this campaign, including last Saturday week at Moonee Valley and Warren said he had been going well.

"My feeling is we would be better off going to an 1100-metre race at Flemington next week, so that we can just give him a look at the straight," Warren said.

"It's a Creswick Series race as well."

Warren also said given the Listed Creswick Series Final (1200m) next month was also worth $120,000, it was not a major target for the gelding.

"We would go to the final if it works, but if we happened to win next start we might even decide to give him a let-up for the spring," Warren said.

"We've just got to make sure he's in the right race. I'm not dodging any horses with him at the moment. I think bad barriers have beaten him both times this time in."

Warren said Tarcoola Spirit, a last-start second at Flemington, was going well.

"She's going super," he said.

"She was terrific down the straight and likes the straight (at Flemington). However she is stakes-placed at the Valley so I wouldn't rule out going there with her."
