Satori remains unbeaten with Sandown win

Wednesday 22 August 2018, 5:31pm

Trainer Matt Cumani hopes the victory of Satori at Sandown will help injured jockey Anthony Boyd in his recovery.

Boyd was airlifted from Ballarat last Thursday to Melbourne's Alfred Hospital following a fall at trackwork and remains in hospital.

Cumani said Boyd was an integral member of his stable and had ridden Satori in his first-up win at Geelong last month.

"Anthony is a real asset to the team," Cumani said.

"Thank god it seems that he's OK but it definitely gave us a bit of a shock and we all wish him a speedy recovery."

Satori remains unbeaten after carrying 61kg to success in Wednesday's Ladbrokes Odds Boost Handicap.

After sitting wide, Satori ($5) went on to record a 2-3/4 length win from Aerovictory ($71) with Gold Denari ($18) three-quarters-of-a-length away third.

Cumani said the stable had considered not running the gelding with the big weight from a wide draw.

"We thought there were a few things against him today," Cumani said.

"But we've got to get him up in the handicap now for some of those more exciting races so we'll try and take that step.

"We'll go through some handicaps for the time being and take it a step at a time."

Cumani said joint issues had restricted the gelding to only four starts after making his debut at Ballarat for Saab Hasan in March 2017 before winning for Cumani at Geelong in December.

" I think that patience has started to pay off," Cumani said.
