Racing function raises $40,000 for drought

Monday 27 August 2018, 12:23pm

Brisbane's racing industry has raised at least $40,000 for drought-stricken farmers at a function at Doomben Racecourse.

About 250 trainers, jockeys, owners, track staff, racing officials and media gathered for Sunday's fund raiser organised by Brisbane racing identities Desleigh Forster and Emma Smith.

There was an auction to "win" two hours of the time of leading racing personalities including former champion trainer Peter Moody who made a shock appearance albeit as a cardboard cut-out.

Premier trainer Tony Gollan brought the highest price of $4500.

There was also a memorabilia auction including limited prints of the great mare Winx.

A final figure will not be determined until later this week but the function raised at least $40,000 for the Drought Angels organisation.

"It just goes to show what racing people can do when they all pull together," Forster said.
