Underrated jockey Rikki Palmer has a golden opportunity to ride her first metropolitan double at Doomben on Saturday.
Palmer has kept the mount on undefeated Beau Arrow in the St Margaret's Handicap (1050m) and last-start winner Mystic Mist in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Fillies Handicap (1200m).
She recently brought up her 150th career win after resuming last year from a two-year break to recover from a collarbone injury while getting married and having a baby.
Palmer has ridden Beau Arrow in the five-year-old's two starts that have resulted in impressive wins.
Both times Beau Arrow has come from well back in the fields to swamp the leaders.
Beau Arrow is trained at Beaudesert by Matthew Dunn who mixes thoroughbred training with his career as a top polo player.
"Rikki knows the horse and she deserves to keep the ride," Dunn said.
Palmer has ridden Mystic Mist in eight of her nine starts including two wins and a Doomben second on a soft track in March.
Trainer Harold Norman has been a great supporter of Palmer who was apprenticed to him.
