It's better late than never for Beau Arrow

Saturday 8 September 2018, 12:42pm

Beau Arrow, a latecomer to racing, continued to reap benefits of time when he maintained his unbeaten record at Doomben.

Sent out favourite, Beau Arrow ($3.30) made it three wins from three starts when he got up by a short half-head to beat Hi Fiver ($3.80) with a head to Blue Seattle ($9.50) in the St Margaret's Handicap (1050m).

Beaudesert trainer Matthew Dunn got Beau Arrow as an unraced four-year-old and originally was planning to sack him without a start.

But when Beau Arrow's half-brother Jonker raced into Magic Millions calculations, Dunn decided to try one more time.

"Beau Arrow has had a tie-back operation and it seems to have worked as you wouldn't know it when he is fully fit," Dunn said.

"He has plenty of ability and I think he can win in better company."

Dunn has gone through his training career getting mixed up with Murwillumbah trainer Matt Dunn and he is an accomplished horseman.

He is also a top-grade polo player and horse breaker as well as racehorse trainer.

"That was my first Saturday winner but I have had more than a dozen around the provincial tracks," he said.

Rikki Palmer, who is the only mother riding in Brisbane, said Beau Arrow was a horse which could really find the line and might be something a bit special.

"Well, he is a bit special to me," she said.
