Big money on offer in Qld summer

The Queensland summer carnival will again carry more than $15 million prize money and about $1.5 million in bonus opportunities.

The carnival is set to start with the Listed Keith Noud Quality meeting at Doomben on November 17 and will finish with the Listed Sunshine Coast Cup meeting at Caloundra on January 26.

Racing Queensland chief executive Brendan Parnell said the carnival was again set to take pride of place in the Australian summer.

"Last year was a great success and we are hoping to build on that," he said.

The biggest day will be the $2 million Magic Millions Classic race day which will have a total of $10 million available on January 12 at the Gold Coast.

There will be $500,000 bonus payments for the Summer Two-Year-Old Series and Three-Year-Old Series and a sprinter bonus of $400,000.

There will be a $100,000 bonus for a horse that can win the Villiers Stakes at Randwick and the Bernborough Handicap at Doomben.

There will also be a $50,000 bonus for any horse that runs second, third or fourth in The Villiers and wins the Bernborough.
