RV appoints Robert Cram as chief steward

Tuesday 18 September 2018, 2:13pm

Robert Cram has been appointed as Racing Victoria's chairman of stewards after acting in the role since the departure of Terry Bailey.

Cram began as a cadet steward in 1982 with the Victoria Racing Club and has positions in Victoria as chairman of stewards in the South Western, Ballarat and Northern Districts.

He was also director of the state's apprentice jockey training program from 1991 until 1996.

In 2008 he held the role of manager for integrity services at Racing Victoria before becoming Bailey's deputy in 2010.

Cram said it was an honour to be appointed to the chairman's role and he was looking forward to leading a committed stewards panel.

"My focus will be on maintaining our unwavering commitment to the integrity of Victorian racing, whilst ensuring the highest standards of safety and the professional presentation of our sport on raceday," Cram said.

Rob Montgomery remains deputy chairman, a position he shared with Cram under Bailey.

Bailey quit his post in July to take up an equivalent position in Singapore.
